Sorting a chart in SQL Server Reporting Services by values is really easy. Still, you might have troubles finding the feature, because it is not located where you might expect it.
The objective of this demo is to sort a Bar Chart so that the 10 highest mountains in the Alps will be displayed highest to lowest.
You might be looking for the sorting option under “Altitude” in the Values section of Chart Data. The feature has a different location, though.
- Open the Category Group Properties dialog by right-clicking your group (e.g. “Name”) in the Category Groups section and selecting Category GroupProperties…
- Switch to the Sorting Tab and select your values column (e.g. “Altitude”) and set the sort order.
- Click OK.
