Reader Heather C. wrote in asking if there was a way to tag an entire row of a table as a single "to do" item and have it appear that way on the To Do summary page.
The answer is yes, but this was not working for Heather. What she was doing was creating a new column all the way at the left which held only the to do tag. It looked like this:
This wasn't working as she expected. The reason is that a check box tag requires some content to go with it. If there is just a blank checkbox on a page, for instance, we don't show it in a summary - what exactly would we show if you had 2 of these blank boxes on a page?
Instead, we check to see if the tag has some information "next to it' (in the OneNote lingo, "within the same outline element"). Since the cell on the left was blank, there was no content so we filter it out of reports since we have no logical way to classify it.
The fix here is just to eliminate the (largely) blank column on the left and add the tags to the first column with data. In this case, the due date:
Now the tag summary pane will show the text next to the tag:
And clicking either link will take you to the row of that table.
Pretty nifty and I understand how this can be a little confusing at first. I hope this helps you.
